CHUCK MILLER'S ARTWORK
FISHING BOAT WOODCUT - 1967
LITHOGRAPHS - 1967
My Brother John and I are racing a Detroit Boat Club 16 foot Interlake sloop in a race on Lake Saint Clair around 1966.
I am at the tiller, my Brother John has a more difficult job: "flying" our
Spinnaker sail. We are both wearing foul weather gear
and "hiking out" to keep our boat from capsizing or tipping over. Most of our bodies are outside of the boat. The wind has
changed and what was supposed to be a "downwind leg" in the race has changed to a "Beam Reach" and our boat is
about to clear the buoy for this leg of the race. The boat in the distance is down-wind of us and will probably have to
overshoot the buoy before dropping their spinnaker and tacking to the final leg of the race. We won the race.
